Speed Cushions

An innovative solution to emergency vehicle concerns on traffic-calmed routes, speed cushions slow cars down without significantly affecting emergency response time. Designed as several small speed humps installed across the width of the road with spaces between them, the speed cushions slow cars down to between 15-20 mph as they ride over them. However, the wider axle of emergency vehicles such as fire trucks and ambulances allows them to straddle the cushions, driving over them without slowing down.

Retracts before signals stop flashing

Average deflation: 50 seconds per hump
Humps flush with street when signals turn OFF
Adjustable timer for deflation period: allows for multiple units

Adjustable heights: 1/2” to 3” at 1⁄4” increments

MPH contributing factor to hump height
Maximum ramp angle 22.5° at 3” lift

Split Speed Hump Design

The sloped design of speed humps compels cars to slow down for effective traffic calming.

Puzzle Piece Design

Patented interlocking construction connects units like puzzle pieces, keeping them firmly in place.

Completely Customizable

Modular units allow you to customize your solution length, width, tape color, and choose striping or arrows. The opportunities are limitless.

Environmentally Friendly:

Made of 100% recycled rubber, speed humps are an eco-conscious way to protect your streets. Grants are often available to municipalities who are buying recycled products.

Long Lasting 2 Year Warranty

Two year warranty on speed cushion components installed as per manufacturer’s instructions.

Technical Information

General Description

Speed Cushions of various dimensions might be constructed from standard interlocking modules of the basic foot print dimensions 18” by 42”.
Each unit is bolted to the road using six lag bolts 3/8” dia. through a plastic shield installed in the pavement.
The Traffic Logix proprietary two directional tongue and grove interlocking system provides additional connection between the modules and increases stability of the speed cushion.

Dimensions of the modules:

width 18” (+/- 1/16”)
length 42” (+/- 1/8”)
thickness 3” (+/- 1/8”)
Nelson studs: centered, 12” apart

Dimensions of the Speed Cushions: (width and length of speed cushion is adjustable):

width from 36” up, by 18” increments
length from 84” up, by 42” increments
height of the cushion 3

“The MUTCD does not contain any provisions regarding where to use or how to design speed humps. From the MUTCD perspective, speed humps are considered to be roadway features, not traffic control devices. However, if a decision is made to implement speed humps on a particular roadway, the MUTCD has provisions about the warning signs (see Section 2C.29) and the pavement markings (see Sections 3B.25 and 3B.26) that are associated with the use of speed humps.”
